As more and more children are diagnosed with Autism, preschools and after school programs struggle to address the social and emotional needs of these children. These children may be able to meet the academic demands of the classroom but struggle socially and behaviorally. The difficulties are magnified in the School Age setting after school when socializing is the main focus and groups are large. Staff may get frustrated by the rigidity, tantrums and other ASD typical behaviors. This workshop will help to explain these struggles and give staff strategies for helping these children.
